Functional Behavior Assessment
A Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) is the first step towards understanding the functions of behaviors through review of the student’s history and current engagement in challenging behaviors. Each student requiring an IEP is assessed by the BCBA during 3 direct observations in separate settings (separate classrooms, during peer interactions, etc.). The assessment will provide analysis of the student’s deficits and a current understanding of their skills. The BCBA will present the findings during the IEP meeting and provide follow-up evaluations throughout the school year. Treatment goals are tailored to individual student’s needs with an emphasis on reducing challenging behaviors and increasing skill acquisition.
